Brian Appel is a founder
and principal of MJL Capital Partners. Mr. Appel brings a broad
array of experience and talents to the MJL team, combining his years
in the real estate finance business and his talents as a deal-making
real estate lawyer with his substantial experience in the
acquisition, development and capitalization of a variety of
commercial real estate projects. Mr. Appel received his Bachelor of
Business Administration, with distinction, in 1982 from the School
of Business at the University of Wisconsin and his J.D. in 1985 from
UCLA School of Law. Mr. Appel devotes substantial time and resources
to civic and charitable activities, including the Big Brother/Big
Sister movement (with eight years as a big brother and as a member
of the Board of Trustees of Jewish Big Brothers Big Sisters
Association since 1989) and the “18 Pockets of Joy” Golf Tournament
Benefiting Camp Max Straus (of which Mr. Appel is the co-founder).
Mr. Appel also devotes time to his passions for cycling, skiing and
playing the drums.

Scott Yorkison is a
founder and principal of MJL Capital Partners. Since 1993, Mr.
Yorkison has honed his skills in the planning, entitlement,
development, leasing and construction of commercial retail and mixed
use properties. Prior to forming MJL, Mr. Yorkison served as Vice
President of a retail development company, where he was in charge of
acquisitions, entitlements, project planning, leasing, and
construction and project management. Prior to that time, Mr.
Yorkison worked in property management with Champion Development and
in real estate brokerage. Mr. Yorkison received his Bachelor of
Business Degree in 1990 from California Lutheran University where he
also competed in football and ice hockey. Mr. Yorkison devotes
substantial time to developing the youth hockey programs in Ventura
County and to providing support and resources to various charitable
organizations focused on assisting underprivileged children. Mr.
Yorkison was the coach of the national champion “Mariners”, the
first junior hockey team from California to ever win the National
Championship. He was also a member of the junior college national
champion College of the Desert football team.

Alexandra Spitz has been
part of the MJL Capital Partners team since the inception of the
company. Her responsibilities span the entire property life cycle
and include coordinating escrow and acquisition due diligence items
and closings; involvement in the development phase for each
property; coordinating loan applications, processing, closings and
administration; overseeing property management; and coordinating the
sale of properties. Ms. Spitz maintains key relationships with
tenants, lenders, escrow and title officers, consultants,
contractors and vendors. She is also responsible for MJL’s office
management, accounting and daily operations. Ms. Spitz received her
BA Cum Laude in Psychology from California State University
Northridge and is a licensed California real estate agent. Outside
of work, Ms. Spitz trains in Krav Maga (an Israeli Martial Art),
supports various local charities and teaches Greek folk dancing to
children. She has a passion for traveling and learning about other
cultures.
